Obsessions Stalk

Obsessions stalk, if and when you pursue the urgent and the immediate of life's dimensions, with no large purpose in mind.



"He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love." - The Bible (Ephesians 4:16)

Faith and Self

Faith in myself is not denying my Self. The Self interferes as I seek to love, glorify, and serve God as the only worthy candidate for total life purpose.



"Then, calling the crowd to join His disciples, He said, If any of you wants to by my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways take up your cross, and follow Me." - The Bible (Mark 8:34)

Ask God for Wisdom

Only when we instantly, firstly, and regularly ask God for wisdom, by going to His Word for counsel, by trusting in His leadership of every situation, do we become free from obsessional living.



"Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take." - The Bible (Proverbs 3:6)

Is Knowledge Power?

Knowledge is not power. Knowledge draws power from application. It is doing that demonstrates the reality of hearing.



"But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don't forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it." - The Bible (James 1:25)

Inappropriate Obsession?

Loving God and living for Him in life's various dimensions could never turn into an inappropriate obsession. You will never go wrong wanting Him above anyone or anything else.



"I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised Him from the dead. I want to suffer with Him, sharing in His death." - The Bible (Philippians 3:10)

One Passion

One passion for One, after one purpose, is correct and healthy, necessary and sufficient, for a life well lived, for time well used.



"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful." - The Bible (2 Timothy 4:7)

An Inner Audit

If work weighs on you as your present obsession, if family is your exclusive loyalty, if your heart is set upon public persona, if earning more is the goal of your life, you need a purpose and a passion check - an inner audit.



"No one can serve two masters. For you will hate the one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money." - The Bible (Matthew 6:24)

Obsessions Worth the Cost?

You've got to decide whether your obsessions are worth the cost and energy put into them. It simply won't profit you to gain the whole world and lose your soul.



"And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?" - The Bible (Mark 8:36)

What are Your Foundational Values?

We can transliterate truth to beliefs, and translate beliefs into action points, but it takes a vital relationship with God to transfer truths and beliefs into foundational values and first floor activity in life.



"O LORD, do good to those who are good, whose hearts are in tune with You." - The Bible (Psalm 125:4)

How Will You Prioritize?

We are limited as to our resources - time, energy, money. If there is no way to prioritize among the many goods we can pursue, we will be torn by short-term and subjective considerations.



"Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding." - The Bible (Proverbs 3:5)

We are Limited

The worst danger of many high purposes is not the legitimacy of the pursuits, but the limitations of the pursuer.



"For we were born but yesterday and know nothing. Our days on earth are as fleeting as a shadow." - The Bible (Job 8:9)

Importance of Our Worldview

We all seek discovery moments, defining events, and decisive incidents - except that our interpretation of experience and integration of experience and integration of coincidence into direction depends on worldview premises.



"It is foolish to the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom." - The Bible (1 Corinthians 1:22)

Our Supreme Purpose and Our Existence

The supreme purpose is single and expansive, definite and intensive. It definitely claims and intensively rules all existence - head, heart, and hands, even the loins and feet.



"And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength." - The Bible (Mark 12:30)

Weed Out Obsessions

The intentional life cannot be ruled by obsessions. They are unsuitable candidates for ultimacy. They distract and instead of being occupied with life in its totality, obsessions get you preoccupied with some aspect of life as though it were all of life.



"For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything else we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but from this world." - The Bible (1 John 2:16)

Undergirding Your Supreme Purpose

One's supreme purpose begins with the undergirding purpose of life comprising, the foundational passion, the daily mission, and the overall vision for an intentional life.



"For I fully expect and hope that I will never be ashamed, but that I will continue to be bold for Christ, as I have been in the past. And I trust that my life will bring honor to Christ, whether I live or die." - The Bible (Philippians 1:20)
